A Magical Day to Remember: Celebrating Disney

Disney Day With Grandchildren Dressed Up

On Monday 9th August, residents and staff were able to enjoy a magical, fun filled day celebrating all things Disney. With a little help from the team, our amazing Activity Coordinator Nancy Tierney organised the most wonderful day where residents were able to enjoy a day filled with Disney themed games, entertainment and food.

With Walt Disney releasing the first book in 1928, it’s easy to see why our residents are such big fans; the timeline of Disney has run parallel to the lives of our residents, becoming a household favourite amongst adults and children, and creating lifelong memories with each year that passes.

A Variety of Activities

To celebrate 93 years of Disney, we decided to host a Disney inspired day where every resident could enjoy an activity, recall a memory or get lost in their favourite fairytale book.

Working together, residents started the day helping to create a beautiful Disney collage, using a variety of crafts such as stickers, drawing and tissue paper flowers; once completed, the finished artwork was proudly hung on the wall for all to enjoy.

Staff and residents were then able to sit back and enjoy the most delicious Disney inspired treats. Rachael created Mickey, Minnie and Princess themed covered strawberries which not only looked fantastic but tasted incredible too. Davy baked fluffy Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes which were a hit with everyone who ate them.

We were lucky enough to also be joined by Mickey and Minnie Mouse, who brought smiles and wonderful memories back to all of our residents. Alongside our famous cartoon mice, we were also joined by Belle, Cinderella, Snow White and all the other beautiful Disney Princesses who twirled and entranced our residents with their wonderful performances.

Finally, resident singer Lorna McGraw treated us all to her amazing talents, and put on a Disney themed set that got everyone singing and dancing; the perfect way to end a magical day.
