The team at Bothwell Castle were delighted with our latest Care Inspectorate inspection report, which saw us achieve a score of “Very Good” in a new focus on service performance in relation to COVID-19 infection prevention and control, PPE, staffing and people’s wellbeing.

To support this process, the Care Inspectorate have added a key inspection question to their reports, and have been carrying out additional visits to homes across Scotland in recent months to report the results to the Scottish Government.

The new question is:

Key question 7: How good is our care and support during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Bothwell Castle were delighted to receive an overall grade of “Very Good” for this question, in addition to grades of “Very Good” for each of the key areas.

7.1 People’s health and wellbeing are supported and safeguarded during the COVID-19 pandemic – Very Good
7.2 Infection control practices support a safe environment for both people experiencing care and staff – Very Good
7.3 Staffing arrangements are responsive to the changing needs of people experiencing care – Very Good

The Inspectorate reported:

We carried out an inspection on 12 June with a nurse from NHS public health. We found that people who live in the home were well cared for. There was good work with health professionals to support people living in the home. People were being supported to remain active, and one-to-one activities for people were taking place. Families were informed and involved in their loved ones’ care. We observed staff using PPE well, and the home had adequate PPE supplies. There was good staff knowledge and practice of infection prevention and control. The home was clean with good cleaning routines in place.

Our Home Manager, Helen Kinnaird, said:

“I am incredibly proud of my team for all of their hard work and dedication and would like to extend a massive thank you and well done to each of them. The health and safety of our residents and team is of the highest priority, and it is fantastic to see the Care Inspectorate report reflecting this. ”
