Bothwell

There are an abundance of nature areas and parks within walking distance of Bothwell Castle Care Home, which are perfect for our residents who appreciate the great outdoors. The Clyde Walkway, Strathclyde Country Park and Old Mine Nature Park are all less than ten minutes away and offer stunning views as well as numerous interesting and significant places that provide insight into Bothwell’s rich cultural and historical heritage. Bothwell is also home to the 13th century stone castle, Bothwell Castle. This medieval castle, sited on a high, steep bank, above a bend in the River Clyde, is the ideal place for those interested in Scotland’s story and the role Bothwell plays within that. For those wishing to stay local and explore the village of Bothwell, we are 0.8 miles distance from the centre of the village. Here, residents and their guests can explore a plethora of shops, as well as a range of restaurants, cafés, and pubs to choose from. Our beautiful village is highly recommended to those wanting to spend a leisurely day together with coffee, lunch, or a refreshing glass of wine.

Glasgow

Glasgow City Centre is just 25 minutes away by car, and whilst residents have access to our homes minibus and private car for both group outings and personal trips, we also have excellent public transport links nearby for visiting loved ones. Glasgow has an array of things to see and do for all ages and interests. For leisurely days out, the Glasgow Botanic Gardens provides the chance to admire exotic flowers, and walk the expansive grounds. These beautiful must-see Gardens are located in the heart of the city’s West End by the River Kelvin and contain a variety of plant collections, woodland copses and riverside walks, as well as the famous Kibble Palace. For those who like to immerse themselves in history, we recommend wandering around the gloriously atmospheric Glasgow Cathedral; a true representation of the inspiring Scottish gothic architecture, both inside and out. The other attraction to visit nearby is the Necropolis, Glasgow’s gloriously impressive cemetery inspired by Père Lachaise in Paris and dating back to 1833.

Edinburgh

Edinburgh is home to some of Scotland’s most spectacular and natural beauty. For residents and their friends and family, a trip to Edinburgh Castle is a must. There are many opportunities to explore the beautiful outdoors and enjoy slow-paced walks; The Water of Leith for example offers a tranquil riverside setting where wildlife is revealed by sight and sound. Slightly further afield, but boasting equally beautiful views is Cramond Beach. One of our particularly favourite locations is the Royal Botanic Gardens; a pleasure for all the family, the Garden offers fantastic views of the capital’s skyline, featuring Edinburgh Castle. Accessible via car in just 45 minutes from Bothwell Castle Care Home, this sparkling city has so much to offer residents; whatever their interest, Edinburgh has something for everyone. Thanks to its wealth of history, top-quality attractions and stunning architecture, residents are never short of a new Scottish adventure.
