A Wild Day Out at Blair Drummond Safari Park

Residents at Bothwell Castle Care Home recently enjoyed a fantastic day out at Blair Drummond Safari Park, where we had plenty of opportunities to see some wonderful animals and make new memories together.

We set off on our dedicated minibus, which made the journey comfortable and straightforward for everyone, regardless of their mobility. Once we arrived, there was so much to see as we explored the park and admired the animals. Residents loved learning interesting facts about the different species, showing that it's never too late to discover something new.

For many of our residents, the visit also brought back fond memories of family days out and holidays from years gone by. Throughout the day, we enjoyed conversations about favourite animals and previous visits to zoos and safari parks. These moments of reminiscence can be particularly meaningful for residents living with dementia, helping to spark happy memories and encourage personal connections through shared experiences.

It was lovely to spend the day together somewhere a little different, enjoying a change of scenery and each other's company. Our outings make up part of our varied activities programme, giving residents something to look forward to, offering valuable opportunities to socialise and enjoy new experiences. These shared moments can have a positive impact on mental wellbeing, helping everyone feel connected and involved.

The conversations didn't stop when we returned to Bothwell Castle Care Home. Blair Drummond certainly gave us plenty to talk about, with residents sharing their favourite moments from the day.

We're already looking forward to our next adventure and the opportunity to make even more wonderful memories together!
