A Welcomed Visit from Guide Dogs UK

As a home full of dog lovers, this month we were extremely excited to welcome Guide Dogs UK to Bothwell Castle Care Home.

Whether you require support for yourself, a member of your family or your child, Guide Dogs UK can help find ways to live actively and independently with sight loss. From getting around safely to family support, this wonderful organisation provide guide and companion dogs to help every step of the way.

Our residents thoroughly enjoyed the visit from Guide Dogs UK. Staff and residents alike loved having a cuddle from the very friendly dogs and we look forward to seeing them again very soon.

We invite Guide Dogs UK into our home as part of our Pet Therapy activity. Dogs and cats are most commonly used in pet therapy. However, fish, guinea pigs, and horses have also been known to be involved with pet therapy.

Healthline.com outlins the benefits that Pet Therapy brings:

"It can help reduce blood pressure and improve overall cardiovascular health. It can also release endorphins that produce a calming effect. This can help alleviate pain, reduce stress, and improve your overall psychological state."

Additional benefits also include improving:

  • motor skills and joint movement
  • independent movement
  • self-esteem
  • verbal communication
  • social skills
  • willingness to join in activities

If you would like to find out more about our Activities Programme and daily life at Bothwell Castle, we welcome you to get in touch.
